Conservation Projects

Conservation is the act of stewarding the Earth’s resources in a way that sustains them for current and future generations. At CCLB, we work to support our precious ecosystems through a range of projects.

  • While CCLB primarily serves the gateway cities region, we also support projects in Catalina and across the state! Plus, our urban areas still have whole ecosystems that we can steward. We’re proud to protect our local area.

  • Habitat Restoration

California is the most biodiverse state in the U.S., meaning that we are home to a range of plants and animals, many of which can only be found here! We work to preserve the places where these species thrive by removing invasive species, re-introducing local plants, cleaning wetlands, and more. We work with a range of local and state partners and have Corpsmembers restoring and acting as ambassadors for the Lower LA River, Catalina Island, and our urban lands.

  • Fire Fuel Reduction

Wildfires are an issue of increasing importance here in California. Appropriate fuel reduction is key to minimizing property damage and ensuring that fires do not burn out of control. We work with a range of partners to reduce fire fuels while also understanding that fire is a normal and healthy part of the state’s ecosystem. We are prepared to collaborate with CalFire and state Corps to mitigate the impacts of wildfire and keep our communities and forests safe.

  • Trail Work

California is home to thousands of gorgeous trails that can be enjoyed by all. To maintain their pristine nature, these trails require ongoing maintenance. CCLB primarily works in the Angeles National Forest to erect vehicle barriers on trails, perform general maintenance, and otherwise ensure these recreational spaces can be preserved for generations to come. Our Corpsmembers take enormous pride in being outside and preserving these public spaces.
