Dear CCLB Gateway Cities Charter School Student:
The Conservation Corps of Long Beach Gateway Cities Charter School (CCLB GCCS) has received an email from the State Superintendent about a lawsuit “Morgan Hill, et. al. VS California Department of Education” (known as the “Morgan Hill” case). Other Schools and Districts were sent similar emails and notices. We are contacting our students to inform you about this lawsuit and provide you with information and a link to use in finding and filling out an “Objection to Disclosure of Student Information and Records” by the California Department of Education (CDE). The lawsuit indicates that various student records will be produced by CDE as part of those lawsuits (Not the District). The court has ordered the CDE to release the records under a protective order concerning their use.
We understand these records to contain personally identifiable information on a massive number of public education students. The District is not releasing these records and neither will CCLB GCCS but the CDE will be releasing them. If you wish your student records to be protected please fill out an “Objection to Disclosure of Student Information and Records” form (attached) and Mail the form to the address provided on the form. While the lawsuit is about compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504 Programs, there is no indication that the information to be released by CDE pertains only to students engaged in one or more of those programs. We have no information about whether or not these records pertain to you. If you are interested in obtaining more information, the link is: www.cde.ca.gov/morganhillcase or you may refer to the attached case document (CASE NO. 2:2111-CV-03471-KJ M-AC).
Again, CCLB GCCS is not releasing these records the CDE is; we are providing this notice to you so you can determine whether or not to object to the release of records by CDE.
